Portable Oxygen

Several types of portable oxygen equipment are available for use when traveling; however, not all types are allowed for use during night. The system that is right for you depends on your travel plans, your health requirements, and your personal preferences.

Compressed oxygen is stored in pressurized aluminum tanks or cylinders. A regulator, or valve, is used to adjust the oxygen flow rate. Compressed oxygen units are simple to operate but they are often heavy. Some users may need assistance to move and position the units properly.  Compressed oxygen systems can be used on commercial aircraft only if they are supplied by the airline. (See “Use of Oxygen on Commercial Airline”).  These systems are available in multiple sizes.  Most of the smaller sized tanks are available with a over the shoulder carry bag and the larger cylinders with a light weight aluminum rolling cart.

poc1Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC): These lightweight electronic devices extract oxygen from the air and provide it to users at a much richer concentration than the ambient atmosphere provides. The FAA first approved POC units for use on commercial aircraft in 2005 and are now allowed on most flights. (See “Use of Oxygen on Commercial Airlines”) Batteries that must be regularly replaced or recharged usually power these devices. Those of you who have traveled with oxygen know the difficulty and expense of arranging oxygen for your transportation to the airport, use aboard the aircraft and finally portability at your destination.  Using the new portable oxygen technologies, allows you an easy and affordable way to travel with continuous oxygen therapy.  Oxygen therapy should not confine you to you home.  Give us a call and ask us how we can help you maintain your active lifestyle and save you money!

Invacare Homefill SystemThe Complete Home Oxygen System defines ambulatory oxygen by allowing patients to filltheir own high-pressure cylinders from a concentrator. The HomeFill is a multi-stage pump that simply and safely compresses oxygen from any Invacare HomeFill compatible 5-liter or 10-liter concentrator into oxygen cylinders in sizes M2, ML4, ML6, M6, M9(C) and D.

The ability to fill their own cylinders gives ambulatory patients greater independence and freedom while benefiting from the virtual elimination of time-consuming and costly service calls associated with cylinder and-or liquid oxygen deliveries.

The Home Oxygen Concentrator separates oxygen from room air and provides a high concentration of oxygen to the patient. (10 Liter operation)
